god is faithful and will do it
1 Thessalonians 5:23–24 (NIV) — 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
When we focus on commands, like we did for the last couple of days, we may subconsciously think it’s all up to us. According to these verses, who’s it really up to?
Peace was the theme last week. Paul reminds us it’s the God of peace who is working in us and through us. How does knowing that the God of peace is working in you bring you joy?
Paul tells us that God will sanctify us through and through. What does it mean to be sanctified? Do you feel saintly? What would help you to feel more sanctified?
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless... Are you blameless? You and I are sinners – that is we can be blamed. But through grace we have been declared blameless. Every blame you might think you deserve is gone. How does that make you feel?
… kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and forgiveness is not a one-time thing. It’s until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. How does that make you feel?
The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. Pinky promise, cross my heart, double dog swear. Whatever term you can think of, that’s what this means. God has promised. God is faithful. God will do. How does this make you feel
This week is about joy. Psalm 126:1–3 (NIV) — 1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
The Lord restored, the Lord sanctifies, the Lord keeps us blameless. Now do you feel the joy the writer of psalm 126 expressed? Can you say that you are filled with that same joy?
But what if you’re not sure where you stand with the Lord? You can be. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. If you’ve never received your calling to be a child of God contact me and I will help you know.
